Grain processing range strengthened with Rivakka equipment

Providing solutions to our customers’ on-farm grain processing needs has always been a cornerstone of our business. This puts us uniquely positioned to offer the complete package of milling equipment, preservatives and management accessories to allow the most efficient and cost-effective use of home-grown cereals and pulses.

To maintain and strengthen our market-leading position and respond to the diverse and evolving requirements of our farmers and contractors, we are delighted to have added a full range of equipment from Rivakka.

Rivakka is, like us, a family-owned business and has been working with farmers in Finland for 46 years.

Crimper/roller mills

Their standard Greenmaker crimper/roller machines can be configured conventionally with rollers running at the same speed or as structure mills (where one roller runs twice as fast as the other, giving a tearing effect and resulting in a more finely processed sample and higher output).

Hammer mills

The Rivakka offering also includes small roller and sucker/blower hammer mills. These can be fitted into a fully automated system feeding from several bins, allowing simple blends to be produced on-farm as required, with minimal storage and labour requirements.

Small batch mixers

Through Rivakka, we will also be able to supply small-batch mixers, for which we see a resurgence of interest as more growers seek economies to process their feeds. These mixers were very popular in the UK 20 years ago and are still favoured on smaller traditional farms. But many of the older manufacturers, such as Fraser, have now disappeared from the scene, and there has, until now, been very little available to replace them.

Bespoke equipment

Perhaps the biggest benefit we see with Rivakka is that we now have the opportunity to work closely with their designers and engineers to design and build bespoke equipment. This is something we are increasingly asked for as labour becomes more of an issue, farm size increases, and fuel costs rise. It’s great to be able to service that sector now.

Like us and the customers we supply, the Rivakka business is evolving to develop new products and ideas to support our changing industry, such as affordable on-farm grain sorting, which will become invaluable as bi-cropping grows in popularity.

We hope strengthening our portfolio in this way will cement our position as the go-to supplier of all types of grain processing equipment, not just in our traditional ruminant sector but also in pig and poultry industries, where there seems to be a shift back to on-farm processing again.
